Care at a glance

Water
Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged; reduce watering in winter. Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings.
Light
Bright indirect light is ideal; can tolerate some direct morning sun. Insufficient light may reduce flowering.
Humidity
Prefers high humidity, around 60-70%. Mist leaves regularly or use a pebble tray.
Temperature
Maintain temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C) during the day and no lower than 50-55°F (10-13°C) at night. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.
Soil
Use a well-draining potting mix, ideally one formulated for palms or a blend with perlite and peat. A slightly acidic to neutral pH is preferred.
Fertilizer
Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or stop fertilizing in fall and winter.
Toxicity
All parts are considered toxic to pets and humans if ingested, causing mild to moderate gastrointestinal upset. Keep out of reach of children and animals.
Propagation
Propagate primarily by division of rhizomes in the spring. Seeds can also be used but are slower and less reliable for home growers.
